Cal Quantrill Blanks Padres to Extend Rockies' Win Streak
Cal Quantrill pitched five shutout innings while Brendan Rodgers and Charlie Blackmon homered to lead the Colorado Rockies to a 6-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.
The victory extended the Rockies' winning streak to five games, their longest since they won six straight from Aug. 15-21, 2021.
Quantrill (7-6) allowed only three singles and struck out seven batters. He retired the first 10 batters he faced before allowing a single to Xander Bogaerts to lead off the fourth inning.
Rodgers gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo homer off Padres starter Blake Snell (4-7). Blackmon made it 2-0 with a solo shot of his own in the third inning.
The Rockies added two more runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Ryan McMahon and a sacrifice fly by Sean Bouchard. They tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Yonathan Daza and a sacrifice fly by Elehuris Montero.
Snell allowed four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters and walked two.
The Padres have lost five of their last six games and are now 12-18 in August.
