Four Hawks Named Athletes to Watch, UND Picked Fourth in Summit League Preseason Poll

Grand Forks, N.D. –

Four University of North Dakota student-athletes were named Summit League Athletes to Watch, the league announced on Thursday, August 17. Senior guard/forward Juliet McCarthy, senior guard Maggie Manson, graduate student guard Emily Behnke and senior forward Faith Dooley were all recognized. In addition to the individual honors, UND was picked to finish fourth in the Summit League Preseason Poll, receiving 115 total points. South Dakota State was picked first with 130 points and six first-place votes, followed by South Dakota with 128 points and five first-place votes. Denver was picked third with 121 points, while Oral Roberts was picked fifth with 99 points and one first-place vote. The Preseason Athletes to Watch team is voted on by the league’s head coaches. McCarthy, Manson, Behnke and Dooley were all key contributors to UND’s 2022-23 season, which saw the Hawks finish with a 22-11 overall record and a 12-6 mark in Summit League play. McCarthy, a 6-foot-3 forward, averaged 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season. She also led the team in blocks with 39 and was second in steals with 55. Manson, a 5-foot-8 guard, averaged 10.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. She also led the team in assists with 118. Behnke, a 5-foot-10 guard, averaged 10.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. She also led the team in three-pointers made with 63. Dooley, a 6-foot-1 forward, averaged 7.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. She also led the team in field goal percentage with 54.5%. The Hawks open the 2022-23 season on Monday, November 7, when they host the University of Mary at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
